If you are one of the six million Americans suffering from atrial fibrillation (AFib), an innovative new procedure is available to help the heart maintain a normal rhythm.
“Pulse Field Ablation with FARAPULSE Technology offers a promising new way to treat heart arrhythmias with greater precision and safety,” said Dr. Jitender Munjal, Medical Director of the Electrophysiology Program. “This will improve the lives of many in our community.”
Because the FARAPULSE can target selective tissue, it lessens the chances of damaging the surrounding areas, Dr. Munjal said.
Standard ablation procedure involved guiding a catheter to the interior of the heart and generating extreme temperatures to destroy targeted areas associated with abnormal heart rhythms. The FARAPULSE uses a non-thermal electric field to ablate the heart tissue, lessening the chances to damaging the surrounding areas.
“We at TMC provide excellent electrophysiology care for Tucson, including FARAPULSE” said Dr. Munjal. “We perform the highest number of ablations in the state of Arizona.”
This new technology has shown to be safer and results in fewer complications than standard ablation, according to FARAPULSE developers, Boston Scientific Corporation.
