When the pieces fit together perfectly, magic happens.
At Tucson Medical Center, that magic happened when an idea for a conference activity turned into a collaboration between TMC for Seniors, TMC Revenue Cycle and the TMC Health Healing Arts Program. The idea was to create a hands-on project for attendees to participate in. The result was a beautiful morning of connection, and a once plain table turned into a beautiful work of art.
“It was really great to work on a project that called for hands-on artmaking as it allows you to be present and connect to yourself, the art materials and others around you,” said Jenna Green, program manager of the Healing Arts Program.
The project was led by teaching artist Carolyn King, who hosts art workshops and classes at TMC for Seniors. Participants in her classes painted tiles that were then used by conference attendees to create a mosaic that would be installed on a table located on the TMC campus for patients, visitors and staff to enjoy.
“Creating beauty and meaning together, in community, is a special kind of magic,” King said. “This table-top mosaic wove together the focus, skills and good-will of so many people in service of other community members who both work at TMC or have loved ones at the hospital for treatment. We need more ways to come together these days.”
The project reflects what health care is all about – connection, compassion and community.
“Our recent mosaic tile event at TMC was more than just creating a beautiful table for the patient experience area – it was a powerful symbol of collaboration and care,” said Ashley Teeters, vice president of Revenue Cycle. “Volunteers from hospitals and vendors from across the state came together, each contributing a unique piece to a shared vision. The finished table serves as a lasting reminder that when we work together, we create something truly meaningful.”
