They say good things come in small packages—a sentiment that rings true for a volunteer group that knits and crochets beanies, blankets, pouches and more for Tucson Medical Center’s tiniest patients.
The group began when a big-hearted TMC Health employee found inspiration on TikTok. Veronica Brown, TMCOne Revenue Cycle, saw a video about a mother who started making blankets and beanies for her local Newborn Intensive Care Unit after realizing how few items were small enough to meet babies’ needs. Inspired, Veronica had an idea.
“After seeing this, I thought, ‘I work at a hospital—maybe we can do something like this at TMC,’” she said. After connecting with NICU and Labor & Delivery teams, she confirmed there was a strong need—not only for blankets and beanies, but also for cocoons, pouches and small memorial items for babies born sleeping.
Veronica then reached out to coworker Subrina Harmon, a talented crocheter, to help organize a group. With an enthusiastic yes, Tiny Bits of Love was born in April 2025.
What started as a small group of employees quickly grew as Veronica invited her sister and other community members, including local crafters from Crochet Tucson and the group Holy Needles, which now regularly donates items.
Today, Tiny Bits of Love has 39 members and meets on the last Thursday of each month at the TMC Health Business Office.
In 2025, the group donated 233 items to TMC. This year, they have already surpassed that total with 309 items—and have recently expanded to support Rincon Hospital’s Labor and Delivery department.
Currently, members cover the cost of materials themselves, but the group is working to establish a process for accepting monetary donations. These contributions would help fund materials for items that can be given in honor of donors or anonymously.
“We are incredibly grateful to those who have already donated yarn and monetary contributions,” Veronica said. “Their generosity helps us continue our mission to provide comfort to NICU babies and meaningful support to families experiencing the loss of a child.”
