Jason Nielsen, M.D., is a general surgeon who strives to treat all of his patients like family. "I like to create a family environment with my patients," he said. "This allows for open and honest conversations and trusting relationships, which are so important when it comes to health care and achieving health goals." One piece of advice Dr. Nielsen thinks everyone should apply to their lives is to not try to change everything all at once. "Just improve one thing at a time," he said. Dr. Nielsen's passion to help people and his love of science led him to a career in medicine. He chose general surgery as his specialty because it allows him to help patients with medicine and with his own hands when medicine isn't enough. Originally from Colorado, Dr. Nielsen attended Brigham Young University to earn a Bachelor of Science in microbiology. He then went on to earn his medical degree at the University of Colorado and then a residency at the Mayo Clinic Rochester in Minnesota. Growing up, Dr. Nielsen lived in Tucson briefly and always wanted to return. He now lives here with his wife and six children. When he's off work, Dr. Nielsen enjoys spending time with his family, writing and camping. Dr. Nielsen is fluent in Spanish.
