Dr. Lenn Ditmanson Humanitarian Award
The Dr. Lenn Ditmanson Humanitarian Award was established to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Lenn Ditmanson and to recognize the work of others, who like Dr. Ditmanson, are inspired to recognize the needs of underserved people, work collaboratively to improve and build interventions, and serve the community.Dr. Ditmanson was a tireless advocate and care provider for those impacted by addiction and assisted with the journey through addiction to recovery. Dr. Ditmanson worked across disciplines to meet the needs of the Tucson community and build connections for improved outcomes and care of individuals.
About the Award
This annual award was established to honor service to the community related to addiction medicine, valuing and respecting the dignity of every individual, and mentorship to continue the important service in this area. The award consists of a scholarship fund used for continuing education, training or professional development.Criteria for consideration are individuals (or as funding available, teams) chosen based on one or more of the following:- Works collaboratively across all disciplines through acts of service to lift the needs and voices of the underserved with dignity and respect.
- Raises standards of practice by demonstrating a dedication to vulnerable populations in our communities.
- Provides support, guidance and mentorship to upcoming professionals in the various medical fields who serve at-risk populations such as those impacted by substance use, AIDS/HIV and homelessness.
- Improves the quality and systems of care within the community to include hospitals, medical facilities and all community agencies invested in serving vulnerable populations.
- The nomination process is open to all disciplines working with the underserved population in Southern Arizona.
- Eligible nominees can be social workers, pharmacy workers, nurses, patient care techs, case managers, etc. Physicians (including medical doctors, osteopathic physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, doctors of dental surgery or dental medicine, and doctors of optometry) are not eligible for nomination.
